On January 20, 1880, the first railway was launched in Azerbaijan. The train departing on the Baku-Sabunchu-Surakhani route announced the beginning of a new page in the history of Azerbaijani transport - the era of railways. Not long ago, trains, railway stations, railways became an integral part of the Azerbaijani landscape. Railway lines extended to all parts of Azerbaijan, connecting geographically distant regions to each other and at the same time to the center - Baku. After some time, the railways of our country were connected with the neighboring regions, connecting the Caspian Sea with the Black Sea and the North with the South.
Today, Azerbaijan's railways are experiencing a new stage of development. Ensuring a high level of demand for services in the field of railway transport in our country and internationally, turning our Republic into one of the important transport and logistics centers of Eurasia, increasing cooperation, trade turnover and competitiveness in the region, Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, North-South, East-West international transport corridors , high-level implementation of large-scale and strategically important projects such as the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is one of the important goals.
